Back Off, Don't Slack Off!
We’ve just finished Thanksgiving and we’re heading quickly into the rest of the holiday season.
Our regular routines will sometimes take a back seat to the extra running around we do during the month of December.
One of the regular routine items could be working out. It takes time to get to the gym, then there’s the workout or group classes and then heading home.
We could easily add in a few extra shopping trips in the hours it takes us to workout.
But, if we’re not careful, decreasing (slacking off) on our workouts and the increase in calories from additional eating can catch up with us pretty quickly.
I’ve already had some conversations with people telling me their pants are fitting tighter. “Seriously, what have you been eating?” is my initial response.
We’ve only just begun the 2019 holidays and you already have clothing issues. This is not good.
Let’s learn from others and maybe even our past mistakes and make year better. No, you may not get to every workout. But, if you only have a short time to workout, use it wisely.
Here are some exercises that you can use to keep your calorie burning up and your waistline down.
No, this won’t help you to lose lots of weight and it’s certainly not a workout routine I would use on a regular basis or when you have plenty of time to train, but if you’re short on time and in a rush, this will be the best way to keep yourself in check.
Start with a 5-10 minute warm up. Warming up will prevent injuries and muscle strains from cold and under stretched muscles.
- 1-2 minutes of Jump Rope, running in place, Jumping Jacks, etc. something to keep your heart rate up.
- 25 Body Weight Squats
- 25 Push ups
- 25 Reverse Lunges (alternating each leg)
- 25 Pull ups or 30-45 seconds Bat wings
You can substitute any of the exercises. It’s not the exercises, but the body parts that they engage.
Have fun with this and keep exercising. Backing off can provide some needed rest if you train hard all year, but it will maintain a base level of fitness to finish off the year.
Just remember not to “slack off” or you could be starting over with your fitness and weight loss goals in 2020.
Start Strong, Finish Stronger!
